Chairman's Message

June 2025

{$meta:chairman}

I hope you were able to fill in the FBHVC survey. It certainly brought into focus the length of time we have owned our cars, for my part 16 years for the 3000 and 43 years for the Abbott. The two 100s which I owned were kept for 30 years each after their rebuilds. My first Healey was a BT7 which I bought in 1968 for £280 and sold 3 years later for £320,one of the few cars I sold at a profit!

The survey asked for info on long trips. I can't match Ivor Davies trips over the Alps but the Healey Euro events I did were some of the best. I also travelled down to the Dordogne to see relations a few times on the N roads which were great with not a pothole in sight! 700mls each way.

You will have seen in the FBHVC May report from Robin, that further talks are taking place on the details of new categories to be introduced for historic cars, covering those repaired and restored.

Currently the best way to ensure and check the history of your car is to research with our registers. Do not forget that the absence of a V5C is possibly a warning that all is not correct.

This month sees the introduction of our new Club Insurance Scheme and you will read elsewhere the details which were laid out before us at the last NEC meeting. Several points are attractive, such as accommodating other Healey drivers and the retention of the vehicle after an accident. I'll leave you to peruse the details.

Last month the VE Day 80 celebrations on the 8th May saw many programmes on the television to commemorate the victory and to remember the cost in lives lost during that awful conflict.

My thanks and best wishes goes to those with parents and grandparents who were caught up in the events of 6 long years of war. We will always remember them.

Keep Overtaking - - - safely!
